Blessings on the Menorah Seventh Night
This year’s Chanukah is nearing a close. The eight-day memorial celebrates the great miracle God performed in the history of Israel at the Temple rededication. Seven candles will be lit tonight. For Messianic Jews the brightness of the candles serves as a reminder of the marvelous light of Yeshua. God’s gift of Yeshua is miracle and that He would pay for our sins is a miracle of grace.
Tonight is the seventh of the eight nights of Chanukah. The holiday is a time to remember. At Chanukah we remember God’s miraculous interaction in Israel’s history and also in our own lives. We remember with awe His miracles, His provision, and His light. We look back to the time in history when God’s Holy Temple was defiled, and we see the desire of the People of Israel to honor Him and re-dedicate the Temple as quickly as possible.
Chanukah is also called the Festival of Dedication. At this holiday, Messianic Jews are reminded that Yeshua’s life on earth was fully dedicated to the mission of providing us the way to God. Confronted with such a vast gift for us, we are inspired to whole-heartedly re-dedicate ourselves to Him.
He has made His wonders to be remembered (Psalm 104:11). Praise God for His miraculous deeds, His faithfulness, and His love!
Before kindling the Chanukah lights on the first night of Chanukah, Tuesday December 16, 2014, (or if you’re kindling the Chanukah lights for the first time this year) recite all three blessings. On every subsequent night only the first two are recited.
Recited only on the first night (or the first time lighting this Chanukah):
Blessed are You, LORD, our God, sovereign of the universe, Who has sanctified us through Yeshua and commanded us to light the lights of Chanukah.
Blessed are You, LORD, our God, sovereign of the universe, Who has performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time.
Re-dedication of Our Lives to God
“Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him…” —Psalm 37:5
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” —1 Corinthians 3:16
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— His good, pleasing and perfect will.” —Romans 12:1
LORD, You perform miracles of transformation in our lives! Thank You for changing us and promising to make us more like Yeshua. You have given us Your light to shine for You so that all may see You through us. Help us to be good keepers of Your light. Help us to stay so near to You that we shine Your light to all those around us, that they may be drawn to the Light of the World, Yeshua. May we be wholly dedicated to You, loving You with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
