Blessings on the Menorah Fourth Night
Tonight, Chanukiah candle stands will shine a fourth Chanukah candle. The Servant Candle sits in the center of the lamp stand, higher than the Chanukah candles. It is lit first and then is used to light the nightly Chanukah candles. The Servant Candle gives its light to the others. Yeshua, our Servant Messiah, is high and lifted up, above all else. He came to give us His light and life. As the Servant Candle lights the Chanukah candles tonight, Messianic Jews remember the many ways the Servant God has provided for His people throughout Israel’s history, and the astonishing provision of salvation through Yeshua, the Light of the World, who gave His life as payment for our sin.
Before kindling the Chanukah lights on the first night of Chanukah, or if you’re kindling the Chanukah lights for the first time this year) recite all three blessings. On every subsequent night only the first two are recited.
Recited only on the first night (or the first time lighting this Chanukah):
1. Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be-mitz-vo-tav ve-tzi-va-nu le-had-lik ner Cha-nu-kah.
2. Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech Ha-olam she-a-sa ni-sim la-avo-te-nu ba-ya-mim ha-hem bi-zman ha-zeh.
3. Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech Ha-olam she-heche-ya-nu ve-ki-yi-ma-nu ve-higi-a-nu liz-man ha-zeh.
1. Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah light.
2. Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time.
3. Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion.
“O fear the Lord, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.”
God, You give provide good things for us every day and in so many ways that we often take for granted. Though sometimes our definition of “good” does not match Yours, we trust You and thank You for what You provide for us.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Messiah Yeshua” —Philippians 4:19
Lord, You are so good to assure us that You will meet all of our needs. You meet them out of the wealth of Yeshua’s glory as Messiah and You know what physical and spiritual things of which we have need. You faithfully provide, day by day.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” —Romans 8:32
LORD, we cannot thank You enough for the gift of Your Son, Yeshua our Savior. When we were unable to fellowship with You because of our sin, You provided the payment – through Yeshua – for the debt we owed, and we draw near to You in eternal thanks. Thank You for all that You provide for us, great and small. May the eyes of our heart be ever open to see the multitude of good gifts You give each day. Help us to rest in Your provision. Shape thankful hearts within us, Lord. Give us eyes to see and be truly grateful for the things we often take for granted. Thank You for being a God of provision!
